I don’t care if you’re pro or anti choice, defunding Planned Parenthood would be the stupidest fucking decision of all time. And this girl sums up all the reasons why awesomely.

THIS!! Defunding Planned Parenthood would be STUPID! It would be causing more harm than good.

I don’t care what your politics are: watch this video, and watch the whole thing.  Look, let me break one thing down for you really fast: I worked as an abortion nurse for Planned Parenthood (oh god, the dreaded double P!) for nearly two years.  I also worked as the sex education outreach coordinator.  This meant that I was responsible for going into homeless/domestic violence shelters, churches, and other groups (that wanted us there) and teaching them about STIs, contraception, and other sexual health matters.  THIS was the part of the job I loved.  THIS was the part of the job where I got to make a veritable difference on the road to Planned Parenthood’s “ideal world,” where every child is a wanted child.  You have no idea the joy I got from seeing men and women of all ages have “lightbulb moments,” and know in that second that I had just helped prevent an unwanted pregnancy or the spread of an STI. 

But yes, I worked as an abortion nurse as well.  This means that I did abortion screenings, counseling, and that I was physically present in the rooms and assissting the doctor during the procedure.  Not once did I (or anyone I worked with) try to cover up sex trafficking, sexual abuse, or any other crime.  We followed the law to the letter.  And you know what?  Our clinic was videotaped without our knowledge or consent, and I was one of the employees that was dealing with this “patient.”  But do you know why my face isn’t allthefuckover their video?  Because I did my fucking job according to the law.  Want to know what I did do, though?  I held the hands of these scared, traumatized women while they were undergoing one of the most difficult procedures of their lives.  I hugged women as they sobbed into my scrubs.  I let them talk, and let them figure out what choice would be best for them, because I did not know their lives and would never assume that one option would be better than the other.  And I also got cards and phone calls from women who told me things like “during the darkest time of my life, you were my angel.” 

So don’t for one second assume that you know anything about what goes on behind those doors unless you have worked there or been a real honest-to-god patient (not some scumbag scamming on us pretending to need our help).  Props to this girl for picking this video apart piece by piece; people deserve to know the truth.

Haha. Nostalgia. Although I do believe that the American system no longer has orphanages. They’re called other institutions that are supposed to be more supportive. Supposedly. 

Her accent’s a little rough, but just another one of those videos that you can’t believe all the crazy propaganda out there.
